If branches or parts of your tree are within 3 meters of a medium-voltage wire (usually the uncovered wire(s) at the top of the pole), you must refer to the SIAQ website to find a contractor mandated by Hydro-Québec and authorized to work near the electrical grid. They will clear the branches near the electrical grid, and then a private contractor can complete the work. However, the service wires connecting your home to the Hydro-Québec network are not subject to this regulation. It is therefore the owner's responsibility to hire an arboriculture company to keep the connection clear of any branches or tree trunks that could interfere with or damage the cables.
