If branches or parts of your tree are within 3 meters of a medium-voltage wire (usually the uninsulated wire(s) located at the top of the pole), you must refer to the SIAQ website to find a contractor mandated by Hydro-Québec and authorized to work near the electrical grid. They will clear the branches near the electrical grid, and then a private contractor can complete the work. However, the service entrance wires of your home that connect to the Hydro-Québec network are not subject to this regulation. It is therefore the owner's responsibility to hire an arboriculture company to keep the connection free of any branches or tree trunks that could damage or impair the cables.
